As a lifelong resident of Hamilton County and as a person who spends her days encouraging people to visit the area, I have been lucky to experience so many fun, unique things in my own home county!

Each summer, I most look forward to climbing into a kayak on the White River alongside my kids or friends and family. For us, nothing beats slowly floating down the river on a hot summer day. It’s not just the sounds of nature; it’s being disconnected from the rest of the world for a few short hours. Phones are tucked away into dry bags and the only traffic jam you’ll encounter is a kayak pile-up under a bridge.

A full cooler and a face covered in sunscreen are musts as your group paddles south. Pack a picnic and a blanket (one that can get muddy) for a mid-trip break on the riverbank.

Don’t have a tube, canoe or kayak? No problem, White River Canoe Company has them for rent (the price includes transportation to the launch spot!).

There is so much to do around the White River that I HAVE to share a few other favorites:

  • Fairyville – Family friendly event each Earth Day weekend in the Noblesville Cultural Arts District
  • History on Tap – Explore local brews & history in early June at Conner Prairie
  • Nickel Plate Express – Scenic themed train rides out of Forest Park

To top it all off, June is National Rivers Month, a time to celebrate the rivers across the United States. And what better way to do that locally than by enjoying the White River?!?!
