Summer concerts have an almost magical quality, don’t they? They’re like a rite of passage, special to both the season and our communities, marking the start of warm evenings and unforgettable memories.

In 2007 when I moved to Hamilton County, Indiana (Carmel) from Austin, Texas I naturally assumed it would be hard to rival “The Live Music Capital of the World” with its high volume of music venues. I quickly learned the summer concerts may not have the scale and international renown of Austin’s year-round music scene but offered a more intimate and grassroots experience. Shortly after my arrival I was invited to join my friends for the Polka Boys. The What? Polka Who? If you know you know, and I soon learned! As someone new to the community I was happy to join my friends and witness neighbors, families, and friends gather to share in the experience of community with blankets, chairs, and picnic baskets across the lawn. Couple that with engaging conversations, smiles, laughter, and the enthusiastic energy of dancing — parents, children, and grandparents alike and it became an instantly cherished photo forever engraved in my memory.

A couple years later the company I worked for received an invitation to be a sponsor of Hamilton County Parks and Recreation Cool Creek Concert series. For years to come, my summers were synonymous with Cool Creek Park on Friday summer nights representing the company, entertaining clients, mingling with community and friends. Fast forward to today and my current company, Community First Bank of Indiana is heading into our third year as a sponsor! It is a wonderful opportunity to link arms in partnership, helping to provide amazing opportunities for strengthened community bonds.

Hamilton County summer concerts offer a welcome escape from the daily grind, providing a chance to leave behind the worries and responsibilities and immerse ourselves in the present moment. Whether dancing in front of the stage, lounging on a blanket, or kicking back in a lawn chair with a picnic spread there’s a sense of freedom and spontaneity that infuses every note and makes memories stick. Austin? Austin-who?
